Aiming towards the integration of theory learning and hands-on experimentation, the summer school contains both theoretical and experimental sessions, by which we seek to enhance participants’ ability to analyze and solve real phonetic and phonological problems.

Running Principles of the summer school:

1. Systematicity: structured and comprehensive overview of contemporary phonetic and phonological theories and analytical techniques.

2. Forefront-ness: Current issues and recent advances in these fields.
3. Localization: Focus on the applications of contemporary theories in the study of Chinese Linguistics.

A total of 20 lectures, each lasting two hours, along with 6 online lab sessions, each lasting two and a half hours.

The summer school is jointly directed by Professor Qiuwu Ma of Beijing Language and Culture University and Professor Yongfeng Zhao ,Dean of the School of English Studies at SISU this year. Featured speakers include internationally acclaimed scholars:

• 2–3: each receives a ¥100 discount
• 4 or more: each receives a ¥300 discount

In addition, if total registration exceeds 200, each participant will receive a copy of the chinese version of The Sound Pattern of English (SPE) translated by Prof. Qiuwu Ma, published by the Commercial Press in 2025. The over-700-page book is considered the foundational work of Generative Phonology.
